Monrovia — The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has called an emergency meeting to tackle what it describes as “anarchy” under President Joseph Boakai’s leadership. Scheduled for 2 PM Wednesday at the party headquarters, the meeting will focus on galvanizing support for the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming Fonati Koffa as Speaker while strategizing against the current administration’s perceived failings.
In a statement released ahead of the meeting, the CDC unequivocally endorsed the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming Fonati Koffa as the duly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. “The CDC categorically states it stands with the ruling of the Supreme Court and recognizes Koffa as the duly elected Speaker of the country,” the statement declared. This comes as a rebuke to the actions of those who sought to remove Speaker Koffa in what the Court ruled was an unconstitutional move.
Meeting Agenda: Addressing National Unrest
The party’s leadership announced that the emergency meeting will focus on addressing what it described as the “current anarchy” under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai. The CDC accused President Boakai of plunging the country into political instability and vowed to chart a path forward to counteract what they claim is “undermining the constitutional order and governance.”
Sources within the party indicated that discussions will also include a possible public call for Liberians to reject the presidency of Joseph Boakai. “Following the meeting, the CDC will reach a determination to call on the people to cease from tolerating Boakai as President of the country,” the statement read. The outcome of this decision is expected to be formally communicated to key international partners, including the African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), United Nations (UN), and the United States Embassy.
“Prepare for a National Mournful Christmas”
In an emotionally charged remark, CDC National Chairman Janga Augustus Kowo called on the party’s supporters to brace for a difficult period, describing the current state of affairs as a prelude to a “national mournful Christmas.” The party did not elaborate on the nature of this warning but urged citizens to remain steadfast in the face of the challenges ahead.
