Why Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) Should Inspire Liberia

Silencing The Media Is Silencing The People

US President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign, marked by a firm stance on national interests, economic revitalization, and law enforcement, presents a controversial yet thought-provoking model for nations like Liberia.

While Trump’s leadership was polarizing, his unwavering commitment to strengthening internal governance, border security, and economic policies sparked a global conversation about national pride, sovereignty, and the rule of law.

For countries seeking renewal, his model underscores an important principle: greatness begins with internal discipline and a commitment to national priorities.

Liberia, a nation rich in natural resources but often stifled by corruption, weak institutions, and economic dependency, stands to gain from adapting a version of Trump’s assertive approach. At the core of Trump’s vision was the enforcement of laws—immigration rules, trade policies, and domestic manufacturing protections—intended to prioritize American workers and restore economic strength. Similarly, if Liberian leaders were to emphasize enforcing existing laws on corruption, tax collection, infrastructure development, and local investment, they could catalyze a wave of progress that promotes self-reliance and national dignity.

Moreover, Trump’s strategy highlighted the importance of national identity and pride. This can be a powerful tool for nations struggling with post-colonial identity crises or political fragmentation. By promoting “Liberia First” as a rallying cry—akin to Trump’s America-first doctrine—Liberian policymakers could galvanize citizens to prioritize nation-building over partisan interests. Enforcing educational reforms, strengthening local industries, and promoting transparency in governance are essential steps in reclaiming national greatness.

While Trump’s methods were often criticized for their divisiveness, the fundamental idea of a state putting its people and interests first is universally applicable. Nations like Liberia must interpret this philosophy through the lens of their unique histories and challenges, adapting enforcement-focused policies not as authoritarian measures but as instruments of national growth.

The Trump campaign’s core message of national rejuvenation through policy enforcement and patriotic commitment has global implications. For Liberia and other nations seeking to overcome stagnation and instability, the model serves as a provocative blueprint: to become great, a nation must first take itself seriously—by enforcing its own laws, uplifting its people, and pursuing a bold, self-defined path to greatness.
