World Bank delegation head Narc Lixi speaks during a meeting with Liberia’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications officials on digital market integration, May 26, 2025.

MONROVIA — A high-level delegation from the World Bank-backed West Africa Regional Digital Integration Project has arrived in Liberia to initiate key discussions on the rollout of the West African Single Digital Market initiative.

The team held talks Monday with officials at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, signaling the formal kickoff of Liberia’s participation in the broader ECOWAS agenda to establish a unified digital market across the subregion.

Narc Lixi, head of the visiting delegation, said the mission is focused on accelerating digital infrastructure development and fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment in broadband connectivity.

“This initiative is about bridging the digital divide across West Africa, improving internet access, and harmonizing regulations to stimulate cross-border digital integration,” Lixi said during the meeting.

He emphasized the project’s goals include making broadband more affordable, encouraging policy coordination among ECOWAS member states, and driving economic growth through digital transformation.

Liberia, as a participating member, is expected to benefit from improved infrastructure, streamlined digital governance, and enhanced regional cooperation in the tech sector.

Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Augustine Karpeh, welcomed the delegation and praised the World Bank Group’s commitment to Liberia’s digital future.

“We are grateful for this support,” Karpeh said. “This project will serve as a catalyst for transforming Liberia’s digital economy and enhancing accessibility for all citizens.”

The West Africa Regional Digital Integration Project is part of a multi-country strategy to promote innovation, digital trade, and inclusive economic development by improving connectivity across national borders.
