Woman Arrested with Drugs While Visiting Jailed Brother at Monrovia Central Prison

MONROVIA – The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has sent a woman to the Monrovia Central Prison after she was arrested with illicit drugs while visiting her jailed brother.

The woman, identified as Mariama Kanteh, 34, was arrested with five plastic bags of Kush (a mixture of cannabis and fentanyl) and a tube of cocaine when she attempted to visit her brother at the prison facility.

Correction Officer Ruth W. Johnson apprehended Kanteh on July 24, 2024.

The street value of the seized substances is estimated at L$17,500 (US$90.00) for the Kush and L$50,000 (US$259.00) for the cocaine.

According to the police charge sheet, during the investigation, Kanteh admitted to the allegations. She reportedly told police investigators that on July 24, 2024, at 1:40 pm, while on her way to visit her brother Mohammed Kanteh, a convict at the Monrovia Central Prison, she received a call from a convict named Titus. He instructed her to pick up a package on UN Drive.

Kanteh narrated that upon arrival, she collected a black plastic bag containing five medical plastics of Kush and a tube of cocaine from a bike rider without inspecting the contents. She was arrested upon entering the prison compound with the plastic bag.

Kanteh was subsequently turned over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Liberia National Police for further investigation. During the investigation, Kanteh denied ownership of the plastic bag, claiming it was given to her by the unidentified bike rider. However, she admitted that the bag containing the narcotics was in her possession when she entered the prison compound.
