Thomas P. Fallah University College Becomes APEX University of Liberia

Paynesville — The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) has officially approved the renaming of Thomas P. Fallah University College (TPFUC) to APEX University of Liberia (AUL). This renaming marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the institution and reflects its commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education.

The decision to rename the university was initiated by a request from the authorities of Thomas P. Fallah University College, which was subsequently approved by the NCHE. The exact reasons behind the name change were not detailed in the official communication. The university college was originally owned by Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah. The Liberian Investigator has not been able to establish if it has been sold, prompting the name change.

In a formal communication dated August 1, 2024, NCHE Executive Director Professor Edward Lama Wonkeryor conveyed the commission’s approval to the management and Board of Trustees of APEX University of Liberia. The approval followed a request submitted by the university’s Board of Trustees and Management on July 8, 2024, expressing their unanimous decision to rebrand the institution.

“The National Commission on Higher Education is pleased to acknowledge receipt of your letter for ‘Change of University Name’ and recognizes the importance that Thomas P. Fallah University attaches to this change,” stated Professor Wonkeryor in the official letter. He emphasized that the decision aligns with the ongoing transformation in Liberia’s higher education sector aimed at achieving sustained recovery and advancement.

APEX University of Liberia’s leadership expressed their gratitude to the NCHE for the swift approval and reaffirmed their dedication to upholding the highest standards of education. In their statement, they said, “We are honored by the NCHE’s prompt response to our request. This rebranding represents a new chapter in our history, and we are committed to continuing our tradition of academic excellence and service to the community.”
