Speeding Vehicle Destroys Another Police Booth at Vamoma Junction

Monrovia – A speeding vehicle has collided with and destroyed the police mobile booth stationed at Vamoma Junction, marking the second such incident in recent times. The accident occurred on Friday night.

This follows a similar accident at Boulevard Junction, where another police booth was demolished in an accident involving a speeding vehicle about a fortnight ago.

Authorities from the Liberia National Police (LNP) have yet to release an official status report on the damage sustained in the first incident. However, eyewitness accounts from police officers at the scene of the recent accident confirm that a police officer was inside the booth when the vehicle struck. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed.

These police booths, inaugurated in March by President Joseph Boakai, are a critical component of the LNP’s crime-fighting and public safety efforts. The booths, equipped with 360° CCTV cameras and base phones, were installed to enhance the LNP’s ability to investigate crimes and improve communication among officers in the field.

The project, spearheaded by the SAVVY Group of Companies, intends to deploy 25,000 mobile booths across Liberia’s 15 counties. Each booth is outfitted with a solar-powered radio system and other essential infrastructure, with the total investment amounting to US$8,000 per unit.

These recent incidents raise concerns about the safety and durability of these vital police assets, particularly in light of the recurring accidents involving speeding vehicles.
