Press Union of Liberia Saddened by Veteran Journalist Cholo Brooks’ Death

Monrovia – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has expressed profound sadness over the passing of one of its esteemed members, veteran journalist Joel Cholo Brooks. Journalist Brooks was pronounced dead on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his Barnesville residence after being discharged from the 14th Military Hospital.

With over 30 years of significant impact in the media and a steadfast commitment to national development, Brooks’ career spanned multiple prestigious roles. He worked with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) and served as a correspondent for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Brooks later established The Star Newspaper, which operated for several years before evolving into the Global News Network Online (GNN) website, where he continued to work until his demise.

In its release, the PUL described Brooks’ death as an irreplaceable loss to the media community. The Union urged emerging journalists to emulate the practices of fallen veterans like Brooks, emphasizing that he will be deeply missed.

“The death of Veteran Brooks is an irreplaceable loss to the media community. We urge emerging journalists to follow the footsteps of fallen veterans, noting that he will be missed,” the PUL stated.

The Press Union extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Brooks’ bereaved family and the broader media community, seeking divine intervention to help them overcome such a loss.

Meanwhile, the remains of journalist Brooks have been deposited at the St. Moses Funeral Parlor. Further arrangements, including the opening of a book of condolence, will be announced subsequently.
