MONROVIA – The Project Management Institute (PMI) Liberia Chapter has officially launched and inaugurated its first elected board, marking a major step toward strengthening project management practices and driving development across Liberia’s public and private sectors.
The launch and inauguration, held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, saw the installment of Mr. J. Cyrus Saygbe, Sr. as President, along with other key board members: Mr. James Lynch Monbo (Secretary), Anderson Keah, Sr. (Vice President for Membership), Rakan Zayour (Vice President for Finance), Nemenia Ralph Sonkarlay (Vice President for Marketing and Sponsorship), Isatu Sonnie Bangura Amabe (Vice President for Outreach), and Princess Mariam Zawu (Vice President for Volunteering).
In his opening remarks, PMI Secretary Mr. James Lynch Monbo emphasized the chapter’s mission to unite professionals, foster knowledge sharing, and empower organizations through transformative progress. “The PMI Liberia Chapter stands as a platform to equip our community with the tools, skills, and networks necessary to deliver impactful projects that contribute to national growth and global competitiveness,” Monbo stated.
Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State, Cornelia Kruah, proxying for Vice President Jeremiah Koung, hailed the launch as a transformative step in nation-building, uniting professionals across industries to advance Liberia’s development goals.
PMI Liberia Chapter President Mr. J. Cyrus Saygbe, in his inaugural address, lauded the Government of Liberia and PMI Sub-Saharan colleagues for their support, highlighting the chapter’s role in creating a vibrant and inclusive project management ecosystem.
“Today is not just an inaugural event; it is a celebration of collaboration, vision, and the transformative power of professional excellence,” Saygbe said. “As Liberia moves forward with its ARREST Agenda—focused on economic growth, social cohesion, and sustainable progress—the need for skilled project management professionals has never been greater. PMI Liberia is here to nurture leaders who can drive impactful outcomes, foster innovation, and uphold transparency and accountability.”
Saygbe further noted that PMI Liberia has grown from 25 pioneering members to 47 professionals, including 13 certified Project Management Professionals (PMPs), the global gold standard in project management. “These numbers reflect our commitment, and we aim to triple this membership by FY2025,” he added.
