Liberia’s Fire Service chief vows to strengthen fight against fires

Monrovia – The Director General of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Warsuwah Barvoul, has doubled down on his commitment to bolstering the agency’s firefighting capacity, promising swift and effective responses to fire outbreaks across the country.

Speaking Wednesday during the official handover of a fresh batch of firefighting equipment, including emergency vehicles, Barvoul underscored the critical role of logistics in tackling Liberia’s fire emergencies.

“The availability of essential resources is a game-changer. With improved logistics, we can respond faster and more efficiently to fire incidents, safeguarding lives and properties nationwide,” he asserted.

Barvoul revealed that the LNFS is set to receive an additional six fire trucks, motorbikes, and pickups in the coming weeks. These reinforcements, he noted, will be strategically deployed to fire stations in both urban and remote areas, ensuring a more decentralized and rapid response system.

He credited the latest procurement to allocations in the 2024 National Budget, describing it as a testament to the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s emergency response framework.

The Fire Service Chief also called on citizens to remain vigilant and proactive, emphasizing that public cooperation, early fire reporting, and awareness are crucial in minimizing destruction.

“As much as we invest in equipment, community engagement remains vital. Fire prevention starts with awareness, and we urge the public to work with us in preventing avoidable disasters,” he stressed.
