Monrovia – The Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery has officially adopted a revised set of Education Accreditation and National Clinical Policies aimed at elevating the standards of nursing and midwifery education across the country. The move, which is set to come into full effect in March 2025, is part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with both national and international healthcare standards.
The newly adopted policies are expected to guide the operations of nursing and midwifery institutions throughout Liberia, ensuring that they meet the rigorous educational and clinical standards necessary to produce competent healthcare professionals.
Speaking at the validation event on Wednesday, Roselyn Ballah, Chairperson of the Accreditation Committee, emphasized the significance of the policy overhaul.
“These new policies are a crucial step in our mission to strengthen the quality of nursing and midwifery education in Liberia. We have worked diligently with our partners, including the Kenya Nursing and Midwifery Council, to ensure that these standards are internationally recognized and accepted,” said Ballah.
She also highlighted the collaborative efforts that went into the policy revision. “This achievement was made possible through the valuable inputs from both local and international institutions. I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our partners in health, whose funding and support were instrumental in crafting these comprehensive policies,” Ballah added.
The event also served as a platform to recognize institutions that have shown exceptional commitment to maintaining high standards in nursing education. Nimba University received accreditation to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a significant milestone for the institution and the country’s healthcare sector. Additionally, Adventist University and Cuttington University were honored for their excellence in infrastructure and for setting the benchmark in nursing education in Liberia.
“This is just the beginning,” Ballah concluded. “We are determined to continue this journey of transformation, ensuring that Liberia’s nursing and midwifery professionals are well-equipped to meet the healthcare needs of our nation and beyond.”
