FAMOSA Launches Queen Agnes Nyekan Scholarship to Support Underprivileged Students in Liberia

Fargo, USA – The Fargo Moorhead Old-Timers Sports Association (FAMOSA), a prominent U.S.-based organization, has officially launched a new initiative aimed at improving educational opportunities for underprivileged students in Liberia. The initiative, named the Queen Agnes Nyekan Scholarship, honors Miss Agnes Nyekan, the reigning queen of FAMOSA, and seeks to alleviate the financial burden on parents struggling to afford school fees for their children.

In its inaugural phase, the scholarship program is already making an impact. Eight students from eight different schools across Montserrado County have received financial aid to cover their tuition fees, with additional students expected to benefit early next week. FAMOSA Vice President, Amish Amara, emphasized that the selection process was carefully designed to ensure that students with the most pressing financial needs are prioritized. Schools were asked to provide financial records for students, allowing the organization to identify the most deserving recipients.

Amara highlighted that the scholarship aims to reach students from each of Montserrado County’s 17 electoral districts, with plans for further expansion in the future. “We are committed to supporting students in need, one district at a time,” Amara said, expressing optimism for the program’s continued growth.

Parents of the scholarship recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude to FAMOSA for its generosity, acknowledging the vital support the scholarship provides in ensuring their children can remain in school and continue their education.

Benefitting Students and Schools:

  • Imago Del Elementary & Junior High School – Devine Wellbelleh
  • Shepherd Solid Rock Christian Academy – Armah V. Sesay
  • United Christian Apostolic High School – Emmanuel T. Smith
  • Joseph B. Walkollie Memorial Institute – Grace M. James
  • Patmelia Academy School – Melvin T. James
  • Life Saving Center School System – Meme Gbarbo
  • CDB King Elementary School – Isaac Lolo
  • Beatitude School of Christ – Albertina R. Suo

According to Amara, the initiative reflects FAMOSA’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s educational sector and promoting youth development. With more students expected to benefit in the coming years, the program serves as a beacon of hope for families facing economic hardships.
