MONROVIA – The Experts Institute of Technical and Professional Studies (EITPS) has officially been launched in Jacob’s Town, Montserrado County, providing young people, including high school graduates and college students the opportunity to build their professional skills and prepare them for the Liberian job market.
The dream was conceived in early 2024 and was later registered formally and opened to the public in January, 2025.
Speaking at the official grand opening ceremony on Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Chief Administrator of EIPTS, Mr. Robert Kojo Okyne, states that the drive force behind the institution is the indisputable fact that Liberia needs to focus primarily on providing affordable and high-quality technical, vocational, and professional education to help young people gain practical skills for the job market.
“In view of this situation, a huge proportion of our young people are graduating from schools in the 21st Century, without the requisite skills set for the real world challenges,” he stated.
The EITPS Chief Administrator further vowed the institution’s commitment to buttressing the efforts of national government by making vocational and technical professional skills achievable at a reasonable level for citizens in Jacob’s Town and other parts of Montserrado County and the country.
“We’re offering many courses through the different departments. In the Information Technically (IT) Department, we offer computer courses at two levels, while we also offer Refrigeration and Air Conditioner (R&A), Plumbing and Bio digester, Electricity and Catering among others,” Mr. Okyne noted.
The institution further provides some basic courses under its Department of Communication and Media Skills, including Public Relations and Advertising, Project Proposal Writing and Public Speaking and Leadership among others.
Mr. Romeo T. Coker, Director of Commerical Solid Waste at Paynesville City Corporation (PCC), speaking as proxy for the PCC’s Mayor Robert S. Bestman, lauded the vision bearer for the institution.
He also urged community dwellers, including high graduates and college students to be experts in whatever professional course they may desire to take advantage of.
“Despite your residence, you can be lifted to repair an AC at the Executive Mansion due to your experience and expertise,” he said.
He also stressed the need for Liberia to professionalize and synchronize its educational system to better position its citizens for the job market.
“Mayor Bestman’s heart is into education and his administration remains supportive to this educational initiative,” Mr. Coker added.
The occasion brought together many stakeholders, including District Education Officers (DEO), religious leaders, youths, politicians, business tycoons and humanitarians among others.
They vowed their continued support to the progress of the institution.
Also speaking, Dr. Mohamed S. Swaray, one of the prominent citizens in the City of Paynesville, said such initiative helps to elevate the standard in the country .
He called for collective support of the community, the stakeholders and others for the success of the institution.
He also urged religious leaders to encourage their members to take advantage of the opportunity.
Mother Favor B. Miller, speaking on behalf of Rev. Dr. James G. Miller, General Overseer of Word of Life Ministry, urged the residents and administration to reference the intervention of God, expressing optimism of a greater impact in the society through EITPS. “When I got married, life was tough and people mocked at me but I learned and was rescued by trade,” she said, encouraging community dwellers to add vocational and technical skills to their educatio
