Monrovia — Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan has officially taken over as the new Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) in a formal ceremony held on Monday. In his address, Dr. Nyan expressed his commitment to upholding the principles and objectives outlined in the Act that established the institution.
“I have taken over this position to work in strict accordance with the Act creating this vital institution,” Dr. Nyan affirmed during his speech. He emphasized his determination to restore the dignity and integrity of the NPHIL, stating, “One of my primary goals is to bring back the dignity and integrity of the Public Health Institute, ensuring that it remains a cornerstone of our nation’s public health sector.”
Dr. Nyan also highlighted his vision for the NPHIL as a hub for research and innovation. “We will endeavor to make the National Public Health Institute a research base for all professionals in the public health sector of Liberia,” he pledged.
He extended his gratitude to the President of Liberia for entrusting him with the leadership of the institution. “I sincerely thank the President for his confidence in me and for this opportunity to serve the National Public Health Institute of Liberia,” Dr. Nyan said.
Amidst growing concerns about a recent outbreak of monkeypox in Liberia, Dr. Nyan took the opportunity to urge residents to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures. “I caution all residents to abide by the guidelines and protocols in place regarding the recent outbreak of monkeypox,” he warned.
He further assured the public that NPHIL is actively collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) to keep the public informed about the virus. “We are working closely with the WHO team in Liberia to provide the latest updates on the virus, and some preventive measures are already in place,” Dr. Nyan stated.
The occasion was attended by prominent figures in the health sector, including employees of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, who welcomed Dr. Nyan into his new role.
