Armed Forces of Liberia Discharges Three Personnel for Misconduct

MONROVIA – The High Command of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has discharged three personnel for actions detrimental to service standards and in violation of the Constitution of Liberia, according to Section 7.7(j) of the National Defense Act of 2008.

First Lieutenant (1Lt) Abraham Dolo, who enlisted as a Private in 2009, became a Second Lieutenant in 2017, and was promoted to First Lieutenant in 2020, was one of the discharged personnel. He was last assigned to the 23rd Infantry Brigade. In February 2024, Lt. Dolo’s firearm was involved in an incident where a 15-year-old boy was shot at a local drinking spot in Paynesville. Lt. Dolo admitted to being intoxicated and leaving his firearm unattended. He later tested positive for marijuana. The discharge of Lt. Dolo was authorized by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., Commander-in-Chief of the AFL.

Private First Class (PFC) Kerkula Rocheforte, who enlisted in 2015 and was last assigned to the AFL Engineer Battalion in Gbarnga, Bong County, was also discharged. PFC Rocheforte was found with 32 wraps of Kush drugs in the Barracks and tested positive for marijuana. His discharge was authorized by the Chief of Staff of the AFL.

Private (Pvt) Essa Bility, who enlisted in October 2022 and was last assigned to the Armed Forces Training Command, was the third discharged individual. Pvt. Bility tested positive for four illegal substances, including cocaine and marijuana. The Chief of Staff of the AFL authorized his discharge as well.

Additionally, Staff Sergeant Mohammed Rogers was discharged on June 21, 2024, under the same section of the National Defense Act for similar reasons.

The AFL emphasizes its “zero tolerance” policy on drug abuse and the importance of discipline. The High Command reassures the public of its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism as a “Force for Good.”
