MONROVIA — The Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB) has announced a major initiative to standardize the curricula of agricultural and vocational training institutions across Liberia.
This move aims to align these educational programs with regional standards in West Africa and enhance public confidence in the capabilities of their graduates.
Abraham Billy, Director General of the AITB, revealed the plan during a press briefing, emphasizing the need for a unified approach to technical and vocational education. “While many institutions have established their own guidelines over the years, there is now a pressing need to harmonize these efforts to ensure consistency and quality,” Billy stated.
As the secretariat of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (T-VET) Council, established under President Joseph Boakai’s administration, the AITB plans to convene council members soon to deliberate on advancing the sector. Key topics will include the potential introduction of a national examination for graduates of vocational institutions.
“The national examination will serve as a benchmark to evaluate the competency of graduates and further enhance the credibility of vocational education in Liberia,” Billy noted.
In addition to curriculum reforms, the AITB is preparing to launch a pilot program targeting at least 200 students from agricultural and vocational training institutions across the country. The pilot initiative will help assess the effectiveness of the new standardized guidelines and provide a roadmap for nationwide implementation.
The AITB, a government body committed to developing skilled human resources for the agricultural and industrial sectors, plays a pivotal role in equipping Liberians with the technical and practical skills necessary for the country’s development.
Its objectives include designing training programs for the agriculture and manufacturing industries, fostering innovation, and addressing skills gaps in these critical sectors.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in Liberia’s efforts to improve its educational infrastructure and meet international standards, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to contribute to national and regional development.
