Paynesville – The US Charge d’Affaires to Liberia, Catherine Rodriguez, attended President Joseph Boakai’s wedding anniversary celebration on Monday, just days after her controversial walkout during Liberia’s Independence Day oration.
During the Independence Day celebration, Dr. Robtel Pailey delivered a speech asserting that Liberia has given more to the United States than it has received in return. In response to this remark, Madam Rodriguez walked out of the event. The U.S. Embassy later issued a press statement explaining that her action was a measured response to Dr. Pailey’s claims, describing the oration as divisive.
Despite the earlier controversy, Madam Rodriguez was seen at the Paynesville Town at President Boakai and his wife’s anniversary event on Monday evening. She participated alongside other members of the diplomatic corps and was photographed clapping with other dignitaries as President Boakai and his wife were escorted.
Her actions have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting her stance and others criticizing it, including Bong County District #6 Representative Moima Briggs Mensah, who has called for the US Government to recall Madam Rodriguez.
