One Death Confirmed, Three Severely Injured in President’s Motorcade Accident

MONROVIA – Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Jerelinmek Piah, has confirmed that one person died in a head-on collision between one of the pilot vehicles in the President’s convoy and a keh-keh. He also disclosed that three others sustained several injuries.

“Four persons were wounded in the keh-keh. We have confirmation that one died. One of them was taken to Jamale [clinic] for a CT scan because there is a wound on the head. Another lady had many lacerations but is stable, and another person has a broken arm,” Piah said.

The tragic incident occurred near RLJ Junction along the RIA Highway.

Eyewitnesses said the keh-keh rider attempted to take advantage of the long time interval between the passing vehicles in the convoy when it collided with one of the vehicles.

However, the Information Minister said an investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.

President Boakai, who was in one of the motorcade vehicles, expressed sorrow over the incident and said he hoped it would be the last occurrence. He said he was surprised to see them in the middle of the road when a motorcade was moving. “People have to be careful,” he said while visiting the victims at the ELWA Hospital.

In 2019, the motorcade of former President George Weah was involved in a tragic accident along the Gbarnga-Monrovia Highway, which led to the death of Mr. Gabriel Nyanti Wilson, alias “Executive Horn,” and other members of the press corps were left severely injured.

The accident occurred when former Associate Justice Wilkins Wright’s vehicle reportedly intruded into the convoy, resulting in a collision with the Executive Mansion Press jeep.
