MONROVIA — The House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia on Monday welcomed a high-level parliamentary delegation from India to the Capitol Building in Monrovia, reaffirming a shared commitment to international peace, security and the global fight against terrorism.
The delegation, led by Indian lawmaker Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, includes senior political leaders and former diplomats from various Indian parties. Their visit comes amid heightened global attention to security threats following recent events in India.
According to a statement from the House Press Bureau, Dr. Shinde used the meeting to brief Liberian lawmakers on India’s security priorities in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing Operation Sindoor. He also discussed regional challenges linked to terrorism, referencing United Nations Security Council document SC/15971, which outlines the growing threat of terrorism in Africa, including from groups such as Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab.
Shinde called for stronger global collaboration in combating terrorism and highlighted Liberia as a key partner on the African continent. He emphasized India’s interest in expanding its engagement with African governments on peace, security and economic development.
In response, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon welcomed the delegation and praised India’s role in promoting democracy and security across the globe. He reaffirmed Liberia’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and underscored the country’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and legislative ties with India.
“We look forward to greater collaboration and partnership between our two nations,” Speaker Koon said. “Liberia remains a committed partner in promoting global peace and security, and we fully support India’s stance against terrorism.”
The meeting ended with both delegations pledging enhanced cooperation in key areas, including regional security, economic development, and parliamentary diplomacy.
India and Liberia have maintained diplomatic ties for decades, with increasing interest in expanding partnerships in trade, education, health care and counterterrorism initiatives.
