LACC Tracks Down Man Posing as HR Officer in Nationwide Recruitment Scam

Mathew Monwaker, accused of impersonating an LACC Human Resource Officer

Monrovia – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has apprehended Mathew Monwaker, a man accused of impersonating an LACC Human Resource Officer in a widespread employment scam that spanned all 15 counties. Monwaker allegedly posed as an official representative of the LACC, offering counterfeit job opportunities and issuing fake employment letters to unsuspecting individuals since 2022.

The LACC disclosed that Monwaker’s fraudulent activities came to light after two men in Nimba County filed complaints regarding his dubious hiring practices. “Upon investigation, we discovered that around 15 other individuals had also been deceived by this impersonator, who issued them fake LACC employment letters,” an LACC official stated.

The commission clarified that Monwaker, a former Liberia National Police officer who retired in 2004, has never been employed by the LACC. “This individual has no affiliation with us in any capacity,” said the LACC spokesperson, adding that Monwaker exploited citizens eager for employment by misrepresenting himself within various communities.

Reports indicate that Monwaker attempted similar fraudulent schemes in multiple counties, undermining public trust in Liberia’s institutions. “We tracked him down following numerous complaints about his impersonation and deceitful actions,” said the LACC.

The commission is urging anyone who may have interacted with Monwaker to report to the relevant authorities. “We commend the public for their vigilance in exposing this scam. We are committed to maintaining public trust and preventing incidents like this in the future,” the spokesperson affirmed.

The LACC reiterated its dedication to transparency and the integrity of Liberia’s institutions, warning that any fraudulent activity of this nature will be met with full legal consequences.
