TODEE, Rural Montserrado – A high-speed crash on Saturday afternoon has left two dead and rattled motorists and pedestrians along the Kakata-Red Light Highway. The collision, which occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on a sunny February 22, 2025, involved a gray Honda SUV and a blue Ford Jeep in a violent impact that sent vehicles careening off the road.
Authorities report that the Honda SUV—bearing license plate A42474 and operated by John Mulbah, a man in his late 50s—was en route from Monrovia to Gbarnga. The fatal accident unfolded when a blue Ford Jeep, license plate A525558 and driven by Isaiah K. Dongbo, attempted a high-speed overtaking maneuver. The Jeep collided with the Honda, forcefully propelling it several feet off the roadway and into the bush near Morris Farm on the outskirts of Kakata.
John Mulbah and his adult son, Freeman Mulbah, who was traveling with him, were rushed to Kakata Health Center but were pronounced dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Dongbo, whose injuries remain critical, was transferred to John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia and is currently under intensive medical care.
This tragic incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in the region. Frequent fatal accidents—many blamed on reckless driving and excessive speeding—along major routes such as the Monrovia-Ganta highway have spurred calls for the Liberia National Police to enforce stricter traffic regulations and implement comprehensive safety measures.
