Monrovia – The Liberia Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Commission has ordered the immediate closure of the Bravo Mineral Water Factory, operated by the Liberia Bottling Juice and Water Corporation, due to concerns over water contamination that has rendered the product unsafe for human consumption.
The decision followed a site inspection by the WASH Commission’s Inspectorate Team on Wednesday, which confirmed that the facility failed to meet required safety standards. The factory will remain closed until it complies with these standards.
Atty. Alexander V.S. Saydee, head of the Commission’s Legal Department, stated that the closure was prompted by numerous public complaints regarding the quality of Bravo Water. “Our inspection revealed that the water produced by this factory is not safe for human consumption,” Saydee said.
The Commission has summoned the factory’s management to explain why they failed to comply with previous directives, which included halting operations and recalling contaminated products from the market. Reports indicate that the company did not fully adhere to these instructions, exacerbating public health concerns.
In an earlier mandate, the WASH Commission instructed the factory to retrieve all bottles of Bravo Mineral Water from stores and vendors. However, many contaminated products reportedly remained on the market.
The Commission has also advised the public to refrain from purchasing or consuming Bravo Water until further notice. “We urge all citizens to prioritize their health and avoid consuming Bravo Water at this time,” a representative of the Inspectorate Team stated.
The WASH Commission emphasized that this action demonstrates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all water products meet national safety standards.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Liberia Bottling Juice and Water Corporation regarding the closure were unsuccessful.
