Monrovia – Christopher K. Peters, Sr., the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has resigned from his position.
In a resignation letter addressed to Minister of State Sylvester M. Grigsby, Peters expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead under President Joseph N. Boakai’s administration but expressed the necessity for strategic changes to stregthen the fight against drug trafficking.
Appointed on June 4, 2024, Peters boasts of considerable achievements, including the seizure of illegal drugs worth over US$4 million and securing lengthy prison sentences for traffickers.
In his letter, Peters pointed out, “To effectively win the war on drugs, the LDEA requires strategic reforms, enhanced training, additional staff, appropriate funding, and sustained support from key partners.” He also emphasized the importance of leadership that fosters calm, maturity, and teamwork to propel the agency forward.
His resignation becomes effective on October 31, 2024.
Reports indicate that Anthony Souh, a seasoned official from former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration, is poised to take over as the next Director General of the LDEA.
