GANTA – Two young people, a male and a female, have been reported dead after they were involved in an accident while en route to Tapita on a campaign trail for Garrison Yealue.
Melvin Karl, believed to have been in his late thirties, and Rita Dolo, in her mid-twenties, reportedly died in a motorcycle accident attributed to excessive speeding. Karl was said to have been the rider of the motorcycle, with Dolo seated behind him on the same high-speeding bike.
The two were members of separate campaign teams of Garrison Yealue, one of seven candidates contesting the upcoming Senatorial By-election in Nimba County. Yealue is a former Representative of Nimba Electoral District #4. Like six others vying to replace the late Senator Prince Johnson, who died in November 2024, Yealue — a former executive of the Governance Commission — is hopeful that the people of his county will consider him a suitable successor to fill the vacant seat left by the county’s political godfather.
“It is with profound sadness that the Nimba Project 2025 announces the untimely passing of our dedicated comrades, Melvin Karl of the Doldeh Movement and Rita Dolo, a member of the first-time voters’ movement,” the campaign management team of Yealue said in a press statement.
Yealue’s campaign team, operating under the banner of “The Nimba Project 2025,” described the death of the two young people as deeply troubling. The duo, the statement noted, will be sorely missed for their active and effective roles in delivering campaign services to constituents across the vote-rich county.
According to the campaign team’s statement, the accident occurred during the night hours of April 9 while the team was traveling from District 5 to Tapita City in District 6 as part of their ongoing campaign activities.
Based on preliminary findings from Yealue’s campaign team, the motorbike rider, Melvin Karl, lost control of the speeding motorcycle, veered off the road, and crashed — resulting in the tragic accident that claimed both his life and that of Rita Dolo.
Melvin Karl reportedly died at the scene of the accident, while Rita Dolo was pronounced dead at a local hospital in Ganta on April 10.
“Melvin, a staunch member of the political group ‘Doldeh Movement’ — which supports the political ambition of Cllr. Garrison Doldeh Yealue — had been an active member since 2011, while Rita joined the movement more recently,” Yealue’s campaign disclosed.
In its statement, “The Nimba Project 2025” extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them of its unwavering support during their bereavement. The team also pledged to work with the families to ensure both individuals receive befitting burials.
