Newly Elected Representative Jeremiah Sokan Begins Major Road Rehabilitation in Zwedru

ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County – For the first time since the end of the civil war, the 7km roads in Zwedru will be receiving a major facelift as the newly elected representative of Techien District, Rep. Jeremiah Sokan, is poised to deploy four heavy-duty equipment to the county for the rehabilitation of the roads.

According to Rep. Sokan, he will be grading 10km of road, which will include the culmination of the 7km road in the county’s capital and an extra 3km outside the capital. He told FPA that the cost of the project is US$50,000. According to him, he has already acquired a compactor, a truck, a motor grader, and a bulldozer to begin the work, which will last for a maximum of two weeks.

“This was part of my campaign promises I made to the people of the District and now that we’re in the rainy season, I do not want to waste any time in fulfilling this promise.”

The roads to be rehabilitated include:

ZMHS short cut, 0.3km

From behind Tubman Palace to Welbo Quarter, 0.3km

Madingo Quarter and Gbagbavile Road, 1.2km

City Hall Road #2, 0.4km

Zambo Quarter to ELIM Chapel, 0.5km

Boleyville, 1.2km

ELRZ Road, 1.5km

Carter Center Road, 0.8km

Monjue Hotel to Blessing Hill Road, 0.2km

Rep. Sokan said in addition to the rehabilitation, he is also in negotiation with the private provider of electricity in the county, LIB Energy, for the expansion of electricity distribution in the District.

“Currently, only 10 of the 56 communities in the district have electricity. I’m in talks with the company to see how best it can make some investment in terms of capacity for the expansion of its connections in the District. As a lawmaker, I wrote to the company to review their investments. We need at least seven transformers and transmission lines. Hopefully, we will get the remaining 46 communities connected before Christmas.”

Rep. Sokan noted that Zwedru is an economic hub in the southeastern region; therefore, it is imperative that basic services like electricity and road connectivity are up to date.
