Montserrado District 10 in disarray as former candidate slams Rep. Yekeh Kolubah’s leadership

Published: February 26, 2025

Monrovia – A former legislative candidate for Montserrado County’s District #10, Solomon Y. W. Watkins, has strongly criticized Representative Yekeh Koluba, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful development while prioritizing personal attacks and political infighting over the needs of his constituents.

In a statement issued recently, Watkins lamented what he described as Koluba’s neglect of District 10 since his re-election. He said the lawmaker has abandoned his core duties of oversight, representation, and lawmaking in favor of what he termed as “chaos, insults, and misplaced priorities.”

“Since his re-election, Representative Koluba has abandoned the district, choosing instead to engage in a relentless campaign of insults directed at President Joseph Boakai, his colleagues, and even members of the public,” Watkins stated.

According to Watkins, the district remains plagued by poor infrastructure, lack of clean water, inadequate healthcare services, and deteriorating roads. He further highlighted the growing concerns of disadvantaged youths, locally referred to as ‘Zogos,’ and the worsening living conditions of many residents, the majority of whom, he said, live below the poverty threshold of two dollars per day.

While residents of District 10 continue to suffer, Watkins said Kolubah has instead engaged in “an unending spree of insults and controversy,” accusing him of being more concerned with political fights and maintaining influence over the Speakership of the House of Representatives rather than addressing the pressing needs of the people.

“This is not the leadership District 10 deserves. It is an outright failure and a disappointment to our people,” he stressed.

Watkins called on Koluba to refocus his efforts on delivering tangible development for the district or step aside and allow “real leadership to take charge.”

“The chicanery and desperation for re-election, marked by empty noise, must stop. District 10 deserves a leader who is accessible, accountable, and focused on development, not one who prioritizes political theatrics over progress,” he added.

Representative Koluba, a fierce critic of past and present governments, has often found himself embroiled in controversy, frequently clashing with political figures and state institutions. However, his critics argue that his confrontational approach has yielded little to no benefits for his constituents.
