BONG COUNTY — The Liberian National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has commenced its 52nd General Assembly, emphasizing the need for leadership that enhances sustainable growth and development.
During the opening session in Gbarnga City, Bong County, keynote speaker Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie of Criminal Court A urged the LNRCS’s management and governance to continue efforts toward sustainable development through robust oversight and monitoring. He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in the organization’s activities, stressing that leadership must prioritize resource efficiency to achieve significant outcomes.
Outgoing LNRCS President Jerome N. J. Clarke II lauded the organization’s transparent and accountable systems, which have bolstered partnerships in meeting the humanitarian needs of vulnerable communities. He called on the Liberian government to increase budgetary allotments, pointing out that previous administrations failed to meet their financial obligations, thereby hampering the LNRCS’s humanitarian efforts. Clarke also expressed gratitude to developmental partners for their continued support.
Addressing delegates, Clarke urged them to make prudent decisions in electing new leadership with integrity, emphasizing the importance of choosing individuals who prioritize the greater good of the society. “I extend congratulations to the county chapter chairpersons and their leaders on their successful elections. Your passion and commitment to serving humanity are truly inspiring,” he stated.
Clarke further encouraged the leadership of various chapters to work diligently and honorably, prioritizing the needs of their communities. He emphasized that their roles are vital to strengthening the mission of the Liberian Red Cross.
Secretary General Gregory Blamoh commended Bong, Bomi, and Rivercess counties for incorporating the Liberian Red Cross into their County Development Fund initiatives. He noted that such funding reflects the government’s support for the LNRCS’s humanitarian work. As a gesture of appreciation, authorities from the three counties were presented with certificates of recognition.
In response, Bong County Administration and Liaison Officer Cammue Dormea expressed gratitude to the LNRCS for the recognition. He highlighted the longstanding partnership between the county administration and the Red Cross in fostering development and progress for the benefit of local communities.
The 52nd General Assembly, held under the theme “Enhancing Governance and Leadership for Growth and Sustainable Development,” brought together county governance board chairpersons from all 15 counties, the national board leadership, LNRCS management, a delegate from the Swedish Red Cross, and the president of the Sierra Leone Red Cross.
