VOINJAMA, Lofa County – The Joint Security Team in Lofa County, headed by County Attorney Luther Sumo, on April 3, 2025, carried out the destruction of a significant quantity of illegal drugs in a public incineration exercise held in Voinjama City.
The operation was witnessed by members of the joint security apparatus, civil society representatives, and local officials, including Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavela Massaquoi.
The narcotics were seized on March 17, 2025, following a tip-off about a suspicious black pickup truck—bearing license plate number A533348—traveling from Sierra Leone to Monrovia. Upon interception, authorities discovered a large haul of drugs.
The destroyed substances included 772 compressed plates of marijuana, eight packs of tramadol tablets, and ten 50-kilogram bags of marijuana.
Although June is typically reserved for the burning of confiscated drugs, the joint security opted for an early disposal in April. This, they said, was a strong signal from the newly appointed leadership of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) of its renewed commitment to intensify the fight against narcotics.
At the event, security officials called on residents to remain alert and report any individuals suspected of engaging in drug trafficking or distribution in their communities.
LDEA Commander for Lofa County, Special Agent Kpehe Lomax, reaffirmed his commitment to tackling drug-related crimes, vowing not to rest until illegal drug operations in the county are curbed.
“We are determined to rid Lofa County of drugs, but we need the public’s cooperation. We encourage residents to report any drug-related activities in their towns, villages, and cities,” said Special Agent Lomax.
Also speaking at the event, Superintendent Massaquoi assured residents that Lofa would not become a haven for drug trafficking or any other unlawful activity.
