Paynesville — The administration of Grand Kru Technical College (GKTC) has lauded its Board of Trustees for its steadfast support in enhancing the quality of education at the institution. The Acting President of the College, Associate Prof. Dr. Josephus Gray, announced that the forthcoming President of GKTC, to be appointed by President Joseph N. Boakai, will inherit an institution marked by significant academic progress and a peaceful learning environment.
Dr. Gray revealed that the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley, has generously awarded 10 scholarships valued at fifty thousand Liberian dollars (L$50,000). Additionally, the Chairman of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus, Senator Numene T.H Bartekwa, has contributed 55 scholarships worth two hundred seventy-five thousand Liberian dollars (L$275,000).
Moreover, the Superintendent of Grand Kru County, Honorable Antoinette Worwlee Nimely, has granted 30 scholarships totaling one hundred fifty thousand Liberian dollars (L$150,000), and Mr. Joe N. Sekpeh, the County Development Officer, has offered five scholarships valued at twenty-five thousand Liberian dollars (L$25,000). Four additional scholarships, funded by the Acting President himself, will be awarded based on academic merit.
These scholarships will be distributed on the basis of merit, and Dr. Gray has instructed the Vice President for Academic Affairs to collaborate with the Dean of Academic Affairs and Associate Deans for Student Affairs and Admission and Records. Their goal is to ensure that these substantial scholarships reach the most deserving students, particularly those whose families cannot afford higher education.
“We are incredibly grateful for these scholarships, which we believe will significantly impact over 300 students and provide substantial relief as they pursue quality education at Grand Kru Technical College,” Dr. Gray stated.
The college, which offers two-year Associate of Science and Arts degrees in six major academic disciplines, provides thirty-eight courses across seventy-six sections in areas such as Agriculture, Engineering & Computer Technology, Education, Public Health, Business, and Public Administration. This semester alone, the college is offering seventy-five course sections.
Established by an Act of the National Legislature on March 14, 2019, and led by a Board of Trustees appointed on January 18, 2022, by former President George Manneh Weah, GKTC is committed to fulfilling its mission and objectives for the betterment of the Liberian society, especially Grand Kru County.
“Through the unique and dynamic efforts of the Board of Trustees, chaired by the accomplished academician, Professor Dr. Weade Kobbah-Boley, we are poised to achieve great things,” Dr. Gray added.
As part of its commitment to excellence, GKTC regularly conducts intensive workshops for faculty, staff, and administrators and holds orientation sessions for students to foster a conducive learning environment.
