Former First Lady Clar Weah speaks at a graduation ceremony in Kakata, encouraging vocational graduates to embrace their small beginnings and strive for a better future.

KAKATA, Margibi — The former First Lady of Liberia, Clar Weah, has motivated young people who recently gained professional skills offered by the Dancan Humanitarian Network to make use of their little beginning by working and staying focused, admonishing them that what they have achieved goes beyond driving skills and could be used as a steppingstone to a better future.

The Liberian first lady reminded the graduates that what they have learned is a life skill that none can take from them.

“You have gained a life skill that opened doors to independence, job opportunities, and self-confidence, and that’s something no one can take away from you,” she cautioned.

Madam Weah encouraged the graduates to persevere, noting that the road ahead wouldn’t be a smooth path and that they must confront the challenges that come along the journey. She said one must endure hardship to be successful. She specifically motivated the graduates with her own life story—how she worked two jobs in New York and, at a certain point, had to drop out of school, but she never gave up along her life journey.

She called on the young graduates to believe in the power of hard work and to believe in themselves with humility in order to keep moving toward their destination of success.

She noted that driving is a skill that requires paying attention and being responsible not just for themselves but also for the people around them.

“Every time you get behind the wheel, you are showing that you can be trusted, that you can handle responsibility, and that you are serious about the future,” she added.

Clar Weah reminded the graduates to use the driving skills acquired as their little beginning of something greater, by continuously learning and growing, lifting others up as they rise, and being someone a family and community can look up to.
