Careysburg City Corporation Dedicates US$13,838 Modern Motorbike Terminal and Market Cubicle

CAREYSBURG — The Careysburg City Corporation has dedicated two modern facilities to ease longstanding challenges faced by the residents of the city.

The dedication ceremony, held over the weekend, brought together marketers, citizens, elders, and motorcyclists. The event featured cultural performances to mark the official opening of the motorbike terminal and market cubicle.

Speaking at the ceremony, Montserrado County Electoral District #1 Representative Rugie Barry praised the people of Careysburg and commended City Mayor Edwin Urey for his leadership and dedication to the city’s welfare, describing him as a “people-conscious leader.”

Representative Barry pledged her continued support for Careysburg’s development and expressed optimism about the city’s future. She urged residents to remain united and actively champion developmental initiatives to ensure Careysburg keeps pace with other cities across Liberia.

The motorbike terminal and market cubicle are part of Mayor Urey’s broader vision for a modernized and urbanized Careysburg City. The total cost of the two projects is approximately USD $13,838, with USD $1,475 contributed by community members and well-wishers in cash and materials.

“My sincere thanks and appreciation go to the market women, the motorcyclists, and the elders of Careysburg City for their level of support in helping the City Corporation take this step forward,” Representative Barry stated.

She also called on other communities in Montserrado County and Liberia at large to prioritize development, emphasizing that the country’s progress lies in the hands of its citizens, backed by the national government.

Providing an overview of the projects during the handover ceremony, Careysburg City Mayor Edwin Urey recounted the deplorable condition of the city when he assumed office, noting the prevalence of makeshift structures. He emphasized the collaborative efforts that led to the successful completion of the projects.

Mayor Urey reiterated that plans are underway for additional development initiatives for the people of Careysburg. He appealed to the national government to increase the city’s budgetary allocation, stressing that the current funding is insufficient to run the city effectively.

“What Careysburg City is receiving from the national budget is a drop in the ocean. It is not enough to sustain the city’s operations for a year. I appeal for an increment to help decentralize development initiatives and improve waste collection services in the city,” Mayor Urey stated.

He extended appreciation to Representative Rugie Barry and community members for their support during the construction of the two projects.

The dedication of the modern motorbike terminal and market cubicle marks a significant milestone in Careysburg’s journey toward modernization and improved public services.
