Gbarnga — Bong County District 2 Representative James Kolleh is facing a barrage of criticism from his constituents over what they described as a lack of respect for the rule of law.
Phoning in to a local radio station on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the concerned citizens criticized Rep. Kolleh for insisting he would not conform to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling reaffirming Hon. Fonati Koffa as the legitimate speaker of the House.
They expressed strong disappointment over their lawmaker’s defiance of the rule of law, urging him to retract his threat of impeachment against the country’s highest court. “He must respect the court and take back his words,” they added.
In a statement following the Supreme Court’s decision, Rep. Kolleh, expressing frustration, said, “Just as the court can rule, we also have the power to impeach.”
Responding to Kolleh’s remarks, District 2 Youth President Flomo Getalah urged Rep. Kolleh to put the interest of the country first by accepting the court’s ruling.
He reminded the youthful lawmaker that he ascended to the Legislature through the very Supreme Court and, as such, must accord all due respect to the court.
“Let me remind you, Hon. James Kolleh, and your supporters, that your journey to the Legislature began with the opinion of this very Supreme Court,” Getalah stated. “As Youth President of Jorquelleh District 2 — the district you represent — I call on you to accept the ruling and return to the constitutional leadership headed by Speaker Koffa.”
Representative Kolleh’s political rise followed a by-election held on Nov. 16, 2021. After his victory, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate, Melvin Salvage, filed an amended complaint on Nov. 22, 2021, citing allegations of election violence, fraud, and irregularities. The CDC called for a rerun of the vote in Yeanawoun and Garwuquelleh.
However, the Supreme Court denied the complaint, dismissed the CDC’s appeal and declared James Kolleh the legitimate winner of the election.
