Brooklyn Park, MINNESOTA – Bomi County Superintendent Miatta Dorley has called on Liberians in the diaspora to recommit themselves to the nation’s development by investing their skills, resources, and expertise in rebuilding the country.
Superintendent Dorley made the appeal during an interactive engagement with a cross-section of Liberians, particularly citizens of Bomi County, and potential investors in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. She traveled to the United States to attend the funeral of her cousin, Col. Moses H. F. Vincent, a former official of the Liberia National Police and the Liberia Immigration Service.
Addressing attendees at Handz-On Barber Shop, a popular gathering spot for Liberians in Minnesota, Superintendent Dorley expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fellow Bomi citizens for their unwavering support. She emphasized the need for unity and collective responsibility in nation-building, urging those in the diaspora to consider returning home to contribute to Liberia’s growth.
“No one can build Liberia for us but ourselves,” she passionately stated, stressing that Liberia’s future depends on the active participation of its citizens both at home and abroad.
Superintendent Dorley also reassured Liberians in Minnesota that the Boakai-Koung administration remains committed to steering the country toward progress, despite the financial challenges inherited from the previous administration.
“With the limited resources at hand, the government is doing its best. We must give it a chance and recognize its efforts,” she asserted, expressing optimism about Liberia’s economic outlook.
In a bid to attract investment, the Bomi County Superintendent urged businesspeople in the diaspora to seize opportunities in Liberia, emphasizing the country’s potential for economic growth. To further strengthen international ties, she formally extended an invitation to Hennepin County Government Administrator David Hough, seeking collaboration between local government structures in the U.S. and Liberia.
Strengthening Perceptions of Liberia
Speaking on behalf of the attendees, Phillip Musu, proprietor of Handz-On Barber Shop, commended Superintendent Dorley for making time to engage with the community. He described her visit as an important step in reshaping perceptions about Liberia.
“The insights and encouragement shared today will help change some of the negative perceptions Liberians abroad have about returning home,” Musu remarked. “Additionally, the invitation extended to investors and the Hennepin County Administrator is a commendable step toward fostering development.”
Superintendent Dorley’s visit to Minnesota underscores the Bomi County leadership’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Liberian diaspora, fostering international partnerships, and encouraging investment in Liberia’s promising future.
