Bea Mountain prioritizes water for communities for affected communities

CAPE MOUNT – Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) has prioritized providing safe drinking water to all its affected communities. The company places significant emphasis on water provision as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts in these areas.

To achieve this goal, the company has invested thousands of United States dollars in acquiring modern technologies to enhance its operations. Moreover, BMMC strongly denies allegations of water or soil pollution in its operational areas, emphasizing that all activities are scientifically regulated and meet both local and international standards.

“These allegations are completely unfounded and lack any factual or scientific evidence,” the company stated. Over the years, including in recent times, water in Jikando has been tested by the company, as well as by local and independent bodies, and found to be safe.

The claim of water scarcity has also been refuted by many residents in Kinjor. “We do not have any problem with water here in Kinjor. When you go around the affected communities, you will see that BMMC has installed hand pumps and reservoirs. Even the new one they brought is powered by solar panels,” Mr. Lansanna K. Sambola, Chairman of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), told journalists recently.

In Jikando, concerns about potential water contamination have surfaced but remain speculative, with no evidence to substantiate them. The water in the area has been declared safe and clean for daily use. Some residents confirmed to journalists late last year that they regularly use the water for bathing, cooking, and drinking, with no reported health issues.

To further address the concerns of a few individuals, BMMC has launched several interim projects to provide alternative water sources. The company has also repaired and constructed numerous hand pumps, bringing significant relief to the communities.

For instance, in Than, the Chief Clerk of Mana Clan, Mr. Sekou Barbu, recently expressed his appreciation for BMMC’s efforts. The availability of repaired and new water facilities has been a source of delight for many citizens, who commend the company’s commitment to improving their quality of life.
