Atty. Facia B. Harris Elected Secretary General of the Bong County Bar Association

MONROVIA – Atty. Facia B. Harris, former newscaster at UNMIL Radio (now ECOWAS Radio) and renowned host of Your Morning, Your Sleeping, Your Belle Wake Up, has been elected Secretary General of the Bong County Bar Association at the 9th Judicial Circuit Court. Harris, a Legal Associate at Beyond Law Chambers and a 2022 International Woman of Courage Award recipient, was elected to the role on Monday, November 11, 2024.

This election is part of a broader leadership renewal within the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), which will hold national elections later this month in Ganta, Nimba County. Each county bar association is selecting leaders to serve a three-year term.

Harris described her new role as an esteemed position, one that represents both a personal milestone and a commitment to serving the legal community and upholding the values of the profession.

The Bong County Bar Association is a local chapter of the LNBA. Alongside Harris, other elected officials include Cllr. Johnstone McGill as President-Elect, Atty. Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo I as Vice President, and Atty. Zinnah Sackie as Treasurer.

Expressing her gratitude, Atty. Harris thanked the members of the Bong Bar, her colleagues, mentors, and supporters. “Your trust and confidence fuel my commitment to advocating for the interests of all members of the Bar and to enhancing access to justice for all. I am humbled to serve the Bar and the people of Bong County,” she said.

As Secretary General, Harris aims to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, ensuring that every member’s voice is heard. She intends to work closely with the leadership to strengthen the Bar as an institution within the legal and local communities. Her role will involve administrative, leadership, and advocacy responsibilities, including guiding discussions, fostering collaboration, and overseeing various committees to ensure they operate effectively and report findings to the membership.

Harris is committed to supporting the collective efforts of the leadership and members to strengthen the Bong County Bar, uphold the rule of law, and make justice accessible to all. “I am excited about the opportunities ahead and eager to engage with all stakeholders in pursuit of the Bong Bar’s goals,” she said.

Atty. Harris brings years of leadership experience as a journalist, activist, and advocate for social justice, human rights, and women’s rights. Through partnerships and collaborations, she has led various advocacy and influence efforts, holding key leadership positions both within Liberia and internationally.

In addition to her new role, Atty. Harris serves as the Executive Coordinator for the Paramount Young Women Initiative, based at the YWCA building in Congo Town.
