GANTA – rYassah Flomo, a 35-year-old single mother from Buddy Village, on the outskirts of Tonglaywein town, District 8, Nimba County, is pleading for help as she struggles to care for her nine children alone. Abandoned by her partner after giving birth to triplets in November 2023, Yassah’s situation has become increasingly dire.
Yassah’s former partner left abruptly, leaving her with the daunting task of providing for their children. “He has always been running away, but this time is worse because I have three babies to breastfeed and still need to work hard to feed the others,” Yassah recounted with tears.
Living in a dilapidated hut, Yassah’s children, including the triplets, show signs of malnutrition. She attributes their poor health to inadequate food and lack of healthcare. “People occasionally bring us food, but it’s not enough. The children need medical attention,” she said.
Yassah’s older children also suffer. Due to financial constraints, only her eldest, Princess, an 18-year-old 6th-grade student, remains in school. The others must find casual labor to help provide for the family. “Princess is the only one in school. The others work on farms so we can eat,” Yassah explained.
Their living conditions are dire. The hut they inhabit is on the verge of collapse, exposing the children to the elements. “We have been living in this hut since I was a young girl. It is now falling apart,” she pointed out.
Yassah appeals for help from the government, philanthropic organizations, and kindhearted individuals. She hopes to receive funds to start a small business and materials to renovate their home. “If the government or anyone could help us, it would mean the world. I need to start a business and repair our house,” she expressed.
