WASHINGTON, D.C. — Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has extended an invitation to the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) and other development partners to engage in transformative projects in Liberia. This initiative aims to align with the country’s national development plan, the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
The invitation was extended during a sideline meeting at the 2024 Annual Meetings of the World Bank/International Monetary Fund, where Minister Ngafuan met with Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, the President of EBID.
Minister Ngafuan emphasized his commitment to restoring confidence among all development partners in Liberia. “As Minister of Finance and Development Planning, I will play a frontier role in restoring the confidence of all development partners in Liberia,” he stated.
He expressed that restoring confidence would allow development partners, including EBID, to significantly contribute to Liberia’s development agenda, impacting citizens across all sectors of the economy.
“We are committed to undertaking more transformative projects that will align with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development,” explained Minister Ngafuan. He also highlighted fiscal priorities, noting, “The first claims on revenue are to pay debts to unlock transformative projects. Despite Liberia’s small resource envelope, I am committed to spending wisely and credibly.”
Looking ahead, Minister Ngafuan plans to engage all development partners to build more trust, confidence, and commitment to drive development across the country.
He expressed gratitude towards Dr. Donkor and his team for their commitment and work in Liberia, emphasizing the need to increase Liberia’s quotas in all international organizations, including EBID.
Dr. Donkor, in response, thanked Minister Ngafuan for his efforts and commitment to strengthening the relationship with Liberia and called for a more collaborative partnership.
“We are committed to re-engaging with Liberia and raising funds for programs in the country. It is crucial that we address outstanding issues to drive Liberia’s growth,” Dr. Donkor remarked. “We look forward to a more robust partnership to invest in Liberia and are ready to support your development agenda and ensure fast and cooperative implementation of projects.”
