Monrovia – More than 120 children from across 24 schools in Montserrado County benefited from school materials from SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia as part of efforts to support the government’s “Back to My Classroom” campaign, a critical initiative aimed at addressing the alarmingly high rate of school dropout in the country.

“SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia distributed educational packages and each contained copybooks, geometry set, pens, pencils, and erasers enough for students to complete the academic year,” SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia Communications, Brand and Advocacy Coordinator Joseph Joboe said, adding that the goal is to boost students enrollment, performance and reduce the burden on struggling parents.
He noted that the educational packages were delivered to the schools for the children free by SOS Children’s Villages and called on the students to remain focused on their learning and maximize their potential.
In addition to the educational packages, SOS Children’s Villages is also supporting children’s clubs in over 30 schools in Montserrado and Grand Bassa. “We are providing a platform for children to discuss issues affecting them and promoting a safe school environment for continued learning,” says Joboe.
Recent data from the Ministry of Education shows that school dropouts are alarming, with 1 in 3 children failing to complete their primary education. Poverty, lack of quality infrastructure, and adequate support have left many students disengaged, prompting them to abandon their studies prematurely.
“SOS Children’s Villages is committed to working with the Government and partners to ensure every child has the right to learn and thrive, and this can be achieved through access to quality education, health, and protection,” added.
SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia support for the “Back to My Classroom” campaign is part of its broader efforts to promote education for all children in Liberia. By providing essential resources and school materials, SOS Children’s Villages is supporting the government to create a more inclusive and safe environment that benefits every child in the country.
