MONROVIA – On Sunday, December 22, 2024, residents of District #8, Montserrado County, gathered joyfully in the Bassa Community of Monrovia to receive a generous donation from Saah Young Kingsley, a former footballer and respected member of the district.
Young, who played for Arises FC in 2010, distributed 330 bags of 25kg rice, allocating 15 bags to each of the 22 communities. In addition, every community received cooking oil and LD$10,000 as part of the initiative. The gesture, rooted in the spirit of Christmas, was aimed at giving back to the community and fostering a sense of sharing and solidarity.
The food drive was intended to ease the burdens of the less privileged during the festive season. Addressing the assembled residents, Young emphasized that the donation came from his personal funds, despite prevailing economic challenges. He expressed hope that it would enhance their Christmas celebrations.
He also urged community leaders to ensure fair distribution of the food and money, remarking, “This food was bought with my own money, so let corruption stay far from it so that you can be blessed.”
Community members lauded Saah Young Kingsley and his friends for making the donation possible. They assured him that the items would reach the intended beneficiaries. The gratitude and joy among residents were evident, with many requesting handshakes and hugs from the former goalkeeper.
“Thank you, Mr. Kingsley, for coming to our aid at this time. We may not have the words to express our gratitude, but our faces today show how much we appreciate your donation. We hope you remember us again next year,” they said.
Saah Young Kingsley played for the now-defunct Arises FC in 2006 and helped the team qualify for the LFA Premier League in 2008. While at Arises FC, he represented Liberia’s Youth National Team in major qualifiers from 2008 to 2010. After retiring from football, he transitioned into a career in business.
