MONROVIA – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has officially launched its Taxpayers Appreciation Week with a generous donation of food and non-food items to the Peter Sayklon Orphanage in Bong Mine, Margibi County.
The orphanage, which cares for nearly 100 children from single-parent households or those orphaned, has been identified as operating in dire circumstances.
This donation forms part of the LRA’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at uplifting vulnerable communities, particularly women and children, who are most affected by poverty and limited resources. Items donated included 25kg bags of rice, mattresses, sanitary pads, clothes, slippers, sneakers, detergents, and other essential hygiene products.
On behalf of LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah, Deputy Commissioner General for Technical Services Gabriel Montgomery presented the donation on Wednesday.
Montgomery noted that the gesture reflects the LRA’s commitment to using taxpayers’ resources to uplift the lives of underprivileged Liberians, with a focus on women and children.
“This donation is a direct way of channeling taxpayers’ resources back into the hands of those who need them most, particularly women and children who are often the most vulnerable,” Montgomery stated. “LRA is proud of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, which aims to empower underprivileged communities and improve the lives of those often overlooked by society.”
He also commended the orphanage’s administrators for their dedication to nurturing the future generation of Liberia. “The work you are doing here is invaluable. The children in this orphanage represent the future of our country, and it’s heartening to see the love and care you provide them,” Montgomery added.
Madam Martha Sayklon, head of the orphanage, expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the donation as a “selfless and true demonstration of love for humanity at the highest level.” She noted the significant impact the items, particularly sanitary products for girls, would have on the children’s lives.
“This support comes at the right time and will undoubtedly change the lives of these children for the better,” Madam Sayklon said with visible emotion.
This year’s Taxpayers Appreciation Week is being celebrated under the theme, “Moving to Billions, Celebrating Taxpayers’ Impact.”
As part of the weeklong activities, the LRA will host Liberia’s first-ever National Student Tax Day on Thursday, followed by the Taxpayers Appreciation and Awards Ceremony on Friday, where over 100 taxpayers will be honored. The celebrations will conclude with a sports festival on Saturday at Invincible Park in Monrovia.
