Liberia Reaffirms Strong Ties with China at 9th FOCAC Ministerial Conference

BEIJING, China — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, underscored the strength and significance of the Liberia-China relationship during her address at the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing.

Foreign Minister Nyanti emphasized Liberia’s unwavering commitment to the principles and objectives of FOCAC, under the astute leadership of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia. She noted that the longstanding bilateral relationship between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China continues to deliver mutual benefits for both nations.

Reflecting on Liberia’s commitment, Foreign Minister Nyanti highlighted that nearly two decades ago, Liberia formally adopted the “One-China Policy,” which remains a cornerstone of Liberia’s foreign policy towards China. She affirmed that Liberia remains steadfast in its adherence to this policy.

“Our relationship with China is anchored in a shared vision and goals, as articulated by our leaders, H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. This vision includes building a shared future through ‘win-win cooperation,’ focusing on industrial capacity development, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, green development, capacity building, healthcare, people-to-people exchanges, and peace and security,” Minister Nyanti stated.

Expressing Liberia’s eagerness to further strengthen ties with China, Foreign Minister Nyanti praised the forum, which has been instrumental over the past 21 years in enhancing bilateral relations between African countries and China, fostering economic cooperation, and promoting South-South Cooperation on the global stage.

“On behalf of His Excellency President Boakai, the Government, and the People of Liberia, we extend our deepest gratitude to the People’s Republic of China and our local, national, development, bilateral, and multilateral partners for their continued support to Liberia,” Foreign Minister Nyanti expressed. She acknowledged China’s support for public-private partnerships, which she highlighted as essential for Liberia’s development.

“On behalf of His Excellency President Boakai and the Government and People of Liberia, we extend profound thanks to His Excellency President Xi Jinping and the Government and People of China for the 9th Ministerial Conference.”
