MONROVIA — The Senate Staff Association of the Liberian Senate has commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his call to reconvene the 55th Legislature in a Special Session to address critical national issues, including the proposed 2024 recast budget.
The Association’s commendation came shortly after members of the Legislature, particularly the Liberian Senate, reconvened in Monrovia on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in response to the President’s request.
In a statement issued on the same day, the Senate Staff Association acknowledged President Boakai’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of addressing pressing national concerns. “The attention of the Senate Staff Association is drawn to the reconvening of the 55th Legislature in Special Session to discuss time-sensitive, critical issues of national importance,” the release stated.
The Association expressed its belief that the President’s call to reconvene is a timely response to urgent matters, particularly the Proposed 2024 Recast Budget, which requires immediate attention and cannot be delayed until the regular legislative session resumes in October 2024.
“Against this backdrop, the Senate Staff Association extols the President of Liberia, His Excellency Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, for this recall. The critical national issues expected to be discussed in this Special Session align with the government’s ARREST Agenda,” the press statement added. The Association noted that this Special Session is crucial for the continued development of the country.
The Association also praised the members of the Liberian Senate for prioritizing national interests by cutting short their constitutional break to heed the President’s call. They expressed their commitment to supporting their respective senators, promising to remain diligent in fulfilling their duties during this Special Session.
“In view of the foregoing, knowing that national interest and the welfare of the Liberian people must always be prioritized,” the staffers affirmed.
Additionally, the Association called on all Senate staff members to fully commit their time and efforts to the Special Session, recognizing the opportunity it presents for the Legislature to act on key national issues.
