MONROVIA — Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has been taken into custody as a person of interest in connection with the US$19 million cocaine bust, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah has confirmed.
Piah confirmed the development on State Radio Wednesday.
Taylor was reportedly picked up while attempting to board an ASKY flight, according to the minister.
The former vice president has provided a different account of the incident, saying she was preparing to travel to Accra to attend a women’s forum when she was informed that she was not permitted to leave the country.
“They have asked that I report to the Police Station. I am on my way there,” Taylor said.
The development comes as authorities continue investigating the major cocaine seizure, which has raised questions about the movement of the drugs into Liberia and the individuals allegedly connected to the shipment.
Taylor has been identified as a person of interest in the investigation. No charges against her have been announced.
This is a developing story.
