LACC Urges Public Officials to Uphold Integrity, Calls for Collective Fight Against Corruption

MONROVIA – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has renewed its call for ethical leadership and accountability in public service, urging government officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity while appealing to all Liberians to join the fight against corruption.

In a statement issued Saturday to commemorate African Anti-Corruption Day 2026, LACC Executive Chairperson Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe said public officials have a duty to protect public resources, honor the trust placed in them by citizens and place the national interest above personal gain.

“I call upon all public officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity and faithfully discharge the trust reposed in them by the Liberian people,” Zoe said.

Zoe stressed that integrity should remain the cornerstone of public service, while transparency and accountability must guide the management of state resources.

She warned that corruption continues to impede Liberia’s development by weakening institutions, undermining public service delivery, discouraging investment and denying citizens opportunities for economic growth.

“While meaningful progress has been made, significant challenges remain,” Zoe said, adding that defeating corruption requires every Liberian to reject dishonest practices and embrace honesty, accountability and patriotism.

The LACC chairperson emphasized that the fight against corruption cannot be won by the government alone, saying it requires coordinated efforts from public institutions, civil society organizations, the media, the private sector, community leaders, and ordinary citizens.

She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to carrying out its statutory mandate of preventing, investigating and prosecuting corruption while promoting integrity, recovering stolen public assets and expanding public education on ethical conduct.

According to Zoe, the Commission continues to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, development partners, civil society groups, the media, private sector actors, and community leaders to foster a culture of accountability and zero tolerance for corruption.

Zoe also urged Liberians to play a more active role by reporting suspected acts of corruption, demanding accountability from public officials and promoting integrity in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities.

She said every act of honesty and every decision made in the public interest contributes to building stronger institutions and restoring public confidence in governance.

Liberia joined other African nations in observing African Anti-Corruption Day 2026 under the theme: “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa.”

The theme underscores the need for stronger anti-corruption measures, ethical leadership, increased citizen participation and sustained commitment to accountability across the continent.

The LACC concluded by calling on Liberians to renew their collective commitment to building a society where integrity prevails over corruption, public resources are managed for the benefit of all citizens and accountability remains a defining principle of governance.
