LFA expands women’s football campaign to Margibi and Bong Counties

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) is expanding its Women’s Football Campaign nationwide, inspiring young girls to develop a passion for the sport early on.

In Margibi County, 610 girls ages 6 to 12 gathered in Kakata to participate in the campaign’s latest grassroots festival. The Margibi event follows the official launch of the initiative in Montserrado County on Nov. 28 and a subsequent rollout in Gbarnga, Bong County, on Dec. 5.

The campaign is backed by FIFA through the FIFA Women’s Football Development Programme and aims to boost participation among girls at the community level while empowering the next generation of female soccer players.

In Bong County, over 400 girls participated in activities in Gbarnga. Bong is one of the counties without an official women’s football league, making the grassroots effort especially important. The program offers young girls a chance to feel included, enjoy themselves, and be inspired through football.

The Women’s Football Campaign aligns with the LFA Women’s Football Strategic Plan under the Grassroots and Youth Football Development pillar, known as Little Phenoms.

Rivercess and Sinoe Counties  are scheduled to host the next phases of the initiative.

The nationwide effort underscores the LFA’s commitment to growing women’s football and ensuring that girls across Liberia have access to opportunities to play, develop and dream through the sport.

The official launching ceremony in Montserrado took place at Jacob’s Town Field in Paynesville in November, featuring an open fun-football festival that attracted more than 300 girls from high schools across Montserrado County. Like in other counties, participants took part in games, drills, and mentorship sessions led by current and former women’s players and coaches.
