GANTA, Nimba County – A 62-year-old man has reportedly committed suicide in the Gbloryee Community of Ganta, Nimba County. The motive behind his tragic decision remains unknown.
The deceased, identified as Williams Paye Tokpa, was found hanging in his yard early Sunday morning. According to residents, Tokpa used a rope to take his own life. While the exact reason for his suicide is still unclear, some community members disclosed that Tokpa had recently been rejected by his daughter, Josephine Tokpa.
Tokpa had traveled from Ganta to Monrovia to join his daughter’s birthday celebration but was allegedly turned away. Upon returning to Ganta, he confided in reportedly several community members about his daughter’s behavior towards him.
Alice Dolo, a resident of the Gbloryee Community, told our correspondent, “We woke up early Sunday morning and saw the body of Williams Paye Tokpa hanging from a tree in his yard. Our children discovered the body while doing their morning chores and preparing for church.”
Residents reported that Tokpa, who was their landlord, was found hanging in his own yard. This tragic incident is part of a concerning trend in Nimba County, where over ten people, primarily older men, have reportedly died by suicide in the past five months.
