Monrovia — The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has officially requested the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to investigate and prosecute several former high-ranking officials for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent bus procurement transaction amounting to $145,000 USD.
In a letter addressed to Alexandra K. Zoe, Chairperson of the LACC, Finance Minister Boima S. Kamara indicated that after a thorough investigation by the ministry’s Internal Audit Unit, substantial evidence was gathered implicating the former staff in serious violations, including the payment of $145,000 USD to Duke CARMAX, Inc. for the purchase of two 32-seat buses, which were never delivered by the vendor.
Those implicated and forwarded for prosecution include:
- Ms. Rebecca Y. McGill, Former Deputy Minister for Administration
- Ms. Patience Kollie-Lawson, Former Assistant Minister for Administration
- Mr. Eric B. Arkoi, Former Director of Procurement
- Mr. Alhaji S.M. Dukuly, Former Comptroller
“The gravity of these violations has not only caused significant harm to the Ministry but also undermined public trust in the provision of services by the Ministry. We believe that pursuing legal action against these individuals is crucial for upholding justice and deterring similar misconduct in the future,” stated the letter from Minister Kamara, as seen by the Liberian Investigator.
In a related development, Eric B. Arkoi has been officially terminated from his position. Massayan T. Koikoi, Director of Human Resources, conveyed the termination in a letter, citing breaches of financial discipline as per the Public Financial Management Regulations of 2009. The termination was approved by Bill Modily Jones, Deputy Minister for Administration.
