Capitol Hill, Monrovia — Bong County Sen. Johnny Kpehe has been elected chair of the Senate Committee on Internal Affairs, filling the vacancy left by the late Nimba County Sen. Prince Y. Johnson.
Kpehe’s election followed a white-ballot nomination by Nimba County Sen. Nya Twayen. With no opposition, the Senate unanimously confirmed him to serve the remainder of Johnson’s unexpired term.
In brief remarks after his confirmation, Kpehe thanked his colleagues for their confidence.
“Thank you for placing this trust in me. I look forward to continuing the legacy of the late Senator Prince Johnson through the work of this committee,” he said.
Senate President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence congratulated Kpehe and urged him to demonstrate strong leadership in his new role.
“I urge you to work hard and ensure that the committee remains effective in overseeing matters of internal governance and local administration,” she said.
Kpehe previously chaired the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports. That post has now been declared vacant by Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence, pending a new appointment.
The Committee on Internal Affairs oversees issues related to local governance, traditional leadership, and internal administrative matters throughout Liberia.
