Ralph Paye denies involvement in shooting of Chief Inspector Walker in Mount Barclay

MOUNT BARCLAY – Ralph Paye, a prominent land dealer from Lower Margibi County, has strongly denied any involvement in the April 5, 2025 shooting of Chief Inspector Sam W. Walker, amid reports linking him to the incident.

Paye was allegedly named in connection with the attack, which occurred at the New Jerusalem Community junction in Mount Barclay. However, he has firmly disassociated himself from the allegations.

In a phone interview on Monday, April 7, Paye stated that he was not in Monrovia at the time of the incident.

“I was not in Monrovia when the incident occurred. I was in my village, and any claims suggesting otherwise are absolutely untrue,” he said. “While I know some of the individuals named in the report, that does not implicate me in this situation. I am completely innocent.”

Despite his active role in land dealings in Lower Margibi, Paye emphasized that his profession has no connection to the criminal activity currently under investigation.

He described the allegations as misinformation and reaffirmed his commitment to his community and to the rule of law.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) is currently investigating the shooting, in which Chief Inspector Walker was wounded in the leg. One suspect has been arrested, and others—identified as Joe Hagan, Joe Hagan Jr., Prince Weayee (also known as Chekee), Prince Lord, and Patrick Kellen—have been named as persons of interest.

The LNP has called on the public to assist in identifying and locating the individuals.

Paye expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the investigation and voiced confidence in the legal process.

“Throughout my life, I have always upheld fairness, integrity, and honesty,” he said. “I believe the truth will come out, and my name will be cleared.”
